Adult Tournaments

The rules shall be as per 11-a-side with the following exceptions:

  1. The matches will be played on reduced pitch sizes of 45 x 80m. Full size goals will be provided.
  2. The matches shall be contested between two teams of a maximum of 7 players plus 4 substitutes. A team shall not play with less than 4 players.
  3. All players shall wear suitable footwear and shin-pads and all items of jewellery removed.
  4. The duration of the games shall be a 7 minutes each way with a 3 minute break for half-time.
  5. There shall be NO offside.
  6. 3 pts shall be awarded for a win, 1 pt for a draw. In the event of a tie on points in the Group stages, goal difference shall apply then goals scored. If the teams are still level, then the result will be decided by the toss of a coin.
  7. In the event of a colour clash the first named team shall change shirts or wear bibs. Goalkeepers must be clearly identified - i.e. a different colour top to the rest of his & the opposing team.
  8. Rolling substitutes will apply. Substitutes may only enter the field of play at the halfway line and only when the player being replaced has left the field of play and there is a stoppage in play. The referee shall be informed of the substitution.
  9. The Chairman or his deputy may make any decision to clarify any aspect of the organisation of this competition. The referee's decision on aspects of play shall be final.
  10. The Chairman or his deputy may award points, deduct points and or fine any team or / and order the match(s) to be replayed of any game that has been abandoned, suspended, or postponed due to adverse conditions, injury, safety grounds or misconduct by players or spectators.
  11. A player receiving a yellow card will be fined €3 euro and suspended from play until the fine is paid. A player receiving 3 yellow cards will be suspended for 1 game. Any player sent from the field of play will be fined €5 and suspended for 2 matches. All fines will be received by the Carter Cup Charity Fund.
  12. At the quarter final stage, if teams are level at the end of the game, then 5 penalty kicks are be taken by each side1 followed by 'sudden-death' if required.
  13. In the semi-final & final, if teams are level at the end of normal time, a period of extra time will be played lasting 4 minutes, 2 minutes each way. If scores remain level, then 5 penalty kicks are be taken by each side followed by 'sudden-death' if required.

1Any of the registered team players can be nominated as one of the 5 penalty takers.

Childrens Tournament

  1. Squads will consist of a maximum of 8 players.
  2. Teams will be made up of 5 players, 4 outfield and 1 goalkeeper.
  3. Rolling subs are permitted.
  4. Match duration will be 5 minutes each half.
  5. All players are to remove jewellery, and are to wear shin guards and appropriate footwear.
  6. Normal rules of Association Football apply with the exception of:
    1. Throw-ins, are to be performed as a 'roll in'.
  7. Any foul play will require the player to be substituted for a cool off period of 2 minutes.
  8. The Referees' decision is final.
